Wrestlers of the Week 9! (Feb 26th-March 4th)

Bonjour! This is week 9of my year long series Wrestlers of the Week, Where I will be very bias every week and use these biases to decide who the best wrestler of 2022 is!

The Rules are simple
– The evaluation period start and ends after AEW Rampage Every Week
– The higher you rank the more points you get
– You must have won a match this week to be considered for the list.
-Tag teams are typically bunched together unless one is significantly more notable than the other
– The shows considered are determined by when it becomes available to me. IE: PWG when it gets uploaded to Highspots or any non live show when it get’s uploaded to IWTV.

This week there was 22 shows taken into consideration in these rankings that you can find at the bottom of the article! But for now here is the top 9 wrestlers of the year so far!

1) Alec Price 58
2) AJ Gray 50
3) Saya Kamitani 40
4) Speedball Mike Bailey 39
5) AC Mack 36
6) Carmelo Hayes 35
7) Katsuhiko Nakajima 34
8) Thekla 33
9) Maki Itoh & Miyu Yamashita 31

This was a pretty weak week so there is no Honorable Mentions. But we do have 20 worthy competitors so lets go on to the list!

#20 Ashton Starr (ACTION)

Ashton Starr earned a spot on this week list after a decent match against Bobby Flaco at Action on Friday night. A fun back and forth that saw Ashton Starr get a roll up victory and then challenge AC Mack for the IWTV Championship.

Total Points: 1

#19 Yuka Sakazaki & Mizuki (TJPW)

Okay this one is a weird one. These 2 got on this list by winning a 5 way falls count anywhere match in a public pool area. In a match that had constant pool spts, Waterslide spots, pool noodle action, minigames & a fucking gun, This has to be one of my favorite matches I’ve seen this week.

Total Points: 2 (both)

#18 Robert Martyr (Action)

Robert Martyr earned a spot in this list by having an okay match against Matt Sells that really got across his ever improving wrestling ability and character work. Robert Martyr has a lot of upside and I’m sure this will not be the last time we see him on this list

Total Points: 3

#17 Deonna Purrazzo (New Texas)

Deonna Purrazzo got a spot on this list after successfully defending the ROH Women’s Championship against Vertvixen at New Texas Pro. A fun match where the winner was obvious the whole time but still didn’t take away from the action.

Total Points: 13

#16 James Ryan (PWF)

James Ryan earned a spot on this list by winning a very short scramble match that featured a lot of great action. With not very much going on this week and the impressive performances within these 4 minutes James Ryan earns a spot on this weeks list.

Total Points: 5

#15 HARASHIMA & Naomi Yoshimura (DDT)

The DISASTER BOX Members HARASHIMA & Naomi Yoshimura earned a spot on this weeks list by winning the DDT Tag League defeating Konosuke Takeshita & Yuki Ueno in a fun match! If it wasn’t for a god awful match against Pheromones earlier in the night their placement probably would be much higher!

Total Points: 6 (Both)

#14 Kevin Ku (Action)

Kevin Ku earned a spot on this list by winning the Action title against Arik Royal in a good match that featured a lot of hard hitting action and had a hot crowed behind it. Kevin Ku looks to have a fantastic year coming up soon.

Total Points: 7

#13 Diego Hill (PWF)

Diego Hill earned a spot on this weeks list by defeating Aaron Cox at PWF on Saturday Night. Diego Hill of DPW fame had a low key banger against Aaron and the commentary did a good job explaining the importance of this victory for Diego. I doubt this will be the last time we see Diego on this list.

Total Points: 8

#12 RALPH (IWTV)

RALPH the robot earned another 8 points on this weeks list after defeating a masked Trish Adora (Who has been retroactively given 6 points after being unmasked). RALPH looks to go to the finals against El Gato Blanco next week where the winner will get an IWTV title match in the future.

Total Points: 21?

#11 Drexl (Prestige)

Drexl earned a spot on this list after having a great hardcore match against Vinnie Massaro. In match 2 of Vinnie’s “Maybe he’s not so bad” tour he took a lot of brutal spots and gave some back and overall made Drexl look like the badass that he is.

Total Points: 13

#10 Alex Shelley (Prestige)

Alex Shelley earned a spot on this weeks list by retaining his Prestige Wrestling title in an amazing 4 way match that was hurt a lot by camera production but also saved a lot by all 4 incredible workers inside of it. This made me really wanna see Shelley vs Speedball 1v1.

Total points: 19

#9 Bryan Danielson (AEW)

Bryan Danielson earned a spot on this list by having a banger with Christopher Daniels in the opener of this weeks AEW Dynamite in which he and Daniels were pulling off some shit we would have seen from them 20 years ago. That along side Danielson’s character work earns him a high spot on this weeks list.

Total Points: 36

#8 Austin Luke (H2O)

Austin Luke earned a spot on this weeks list by having a great match with Jersey legend Archadia at H20’s Underrated event. A mix of this plus getting a beatdown after the match has earned Austin Luke a spot on this list.

Total Points: 13

#7 Neil Diamond Cutter (ICW)

Neil Diamond Cutter earned a spot on this list by having a fantastic and probably the best deathmatch of the whole week against Aeroboy. This was a brutal match that saw NDC win after a huge leap off a big ass ladder. I loved this match and I hope to see NDC kill it even more this month.

Total Points: 14

#6 Mysterious Q (OWA & New Texas)

Mysterious Q earned a spot on this weeks list after 2 good matches first at OWA against Isaiah Broner & at New Texas against Billie Starkz in which he won both matches. While both matches were great his victory over Billie just made him come across as a huge deal. With the rise of south wrestling maybe we will see more from him in the near future?

Total Points: 15

#5 BoJack (PWF)

BoJack earned a spot on this weeks list after retaining his PWF title in a title vs career match against Antonio Ace. Tis was a very good match that had the crowds investment the whole time and just made BoJack look like a badass. Between this and more DPW taping coming up expect to see a lot more BoJack on this list in the coming weeks.

Total Points: 35

#4 Carmelo Hayes (NXT)

Carmelo Hayes earns a spot on this weeks list after his main event title match with Pete Dunne on this weeks NXT. A match that I genuinely thought he was about to lose multiple times, Carmelo and Pete had a back and fourth banger which Carmelo came out on top on and earned him another big 17 points.

Total Points: 52

#3 Mickie Knuckles (Ruthless & ICW)

Mickie Knuckles earned a spot on this weeks list first by winning a fun 4 way match against NDC, Mad Man Pondo & Otis Cogar, But also having a all timer against Randi West. These 2 decided they were just gonna kill each other for our enjoyment and I enjoyed every second of it. Mickie who is probably my favorite wrestler going today is consistently putting on amazing deathmatches and I personally cannot wait to see more of them coming up. Here’s hoping she get’s a big booking during mania weekend

Total Points: 18

#2 Kazuchika Okada

Kazuchika Okada earned a spot on this weeks list with his first round matc of the New Japan Cup against El Desperado. I personally tend to hate modern Okada matches but this was the first time in a while that I’ve Okada have a different match rather than his usual shit he pulls. This was fantastic. Maybe the best match New Japan has had with a heavyweight in it in years. If you haven’t checked out this match please go out of your way to watch it.

Total Points: 19

#1 AC Mack (OWA & Action)

AC Mack shows up on this list once again after 2 fantastic matches this week including a successful title defense. AC Started his week with defeating ACH in a non title match because the match was not in the South. He then went on to defeat Masha Slamovich at Action Wrestling to retain his title in a fantastic match. AC Mack who is now in second place in the overall rankings is looking to be a top contender for wrestler of the year between weeks like this and with Uncharted Territory coming up. Also has a title match coming up against the winner of The Masked Wrestler (Hopefully RALPH). AC Mack get’s a huge 20 points this week
